JOHN POLLARD
It is with deep regret we report that John Pollard passed away on February 6, 2026.
John, together with his wife Margaret, was a founding member of Burton Overy Dancers, and had been a mainstay of the club throughout its near-50 year history.
Over those years John had fulfilled many leading Committee roles for the club notably as Chair and Programme Secretary. He also looked after the club’s interests within the village, serving on the Village Hall Committee, and he represented the club at the, now disbanded, Leicester & Rutland (EFDSS) District Folk Committee for many years.
Even when he became unable to dance John still attended BOD meetings regularly to listen to the music, talk with friends and occasionally call a dance or two.
The club was very pleased to be able to celebrate John’s 90th birthday with him in October 2025, when despite his frailty John was able to lead the starting Grand March and then sit in the centre of the room while others danced in a circle around him! He will be greatly missed.
The club sends its deepest condolences and sympathy to Margaret and family at this sad loss.
At the BOD AGM on Wednesday September 18th, 2024, Margaret and John Pollard were awarded Honorary Life Membership of Burton Overy Dancers folk dance club. This was in recognition of, and thanks for, their long service to and support of the club. They were amongst the founding members some 50 years ago, and since then have served in important roles as Chair and Programme Secretary several times. They have always been at the very heart of all BOD activities, both dancing and social.
Below is a picture of Margaret and John with their certificates of Honorary Life Membership.
Burton Overy
Christmas Tree Festival.
As we do every year, we entered a tree for the Burton Overy Christmas Tree Festival.
We couldn’t resist giving our dancing group a teensy plug, but there again, it would be selfish not to encourage people to share the fun of folk dancing.
